Have A Cleaner Home in Less Time

After having my children, I very quickly learned that I can no longer have a cleaner home in minutes, just before company comes over. Suddenly, it seemed that every time I would turn around, laundry, dishes, toilets, windows or floors were calling my name. I could never get caught up. I would feel that overwhelming feeling that comes when there is too much to do and not enough time to do it. I would just shut down. I didn’t know where to start, so I wouldn’t. That overwhelming feeling made me want to lye down and take a nap… an incredibly long nap; however, if I decided to push through and conquer, then it would seem that all I would do is clean, never leaving any time for anything that I actually enjoyed doing. This is when I learned about the House Cleaning Schedule.

The House Cleaning schedule was first introduced to me by one of those “how-to” shows. You know the ones that I am talking about. The ones that make everything seem so easy and practical on TV, but when you try it in real life, you quickly realize it is not at all what it was cooked up to be.

This time, I actually took what they taught me and applied it, and the results were amazing! I no longer had that overwhelming feeling of cleaning like I’d had before. It was really working, and keeping my house clean was no longer a problem! The House Cleaning Schedule works something like this:

Monday – make beds, clean bathrooms, empty sink, one load of laundry
Tuesday – make beds, dust, empty sink, one load of laundry
Wednesday – make beds, vacuum + sweep, and mop, empty sink, one load of laundry
Thursday – make beds, clean windows, empty sink, one load of laundry
Friday – make beds, empty all trash, empty sink, one load of laundry

As soon as I would get up in the morning, I would start on my task, and as soon as I was done with the cleaning project scheduled for that particular day, I would be DONE FOR THE DAY! I knew that the other things would get done either tomorrow or another scheduled time during the week. I found that my time spent cleaning seemed to be greatly reduced, and I suddenly had lots of time left during the day to pay attention to the so many other things that were calling out to me. I didn’t feel overwhelmed by the feeling of constantly cleaning. When company came over, I didn’t have the rush of getting the toilets scrubbed along with getting everything else tidy and put away all at once. I just did my task for the day along with a little freshening up in the places that really needed it.

I stuck to this cleaning schedule for a good period of time, and lately, I have become somewhat relaxed to it. I have noticed a difference in the amount of cleaning that I suddenly have again, so I know that the schedule was working quite well for me.

If getting started seems a little overwhelming, start small. Start with one or two tasks on a particular day each week, and watch how easy it becomes. I have noticed that when I am not on my cleaning schedule, things build up, and tackling the tasks can be brutal. Cleaning the bathroom doesn’t take half the time it used to as long as I stay on schedule. When I clean it on a weekly basis, there’s not as much to clean. Dirt hasn’t had the time to build up and stick to the tub like before when I wasn’t cleaning it as often. Now when I clean, the dirt comes right off, and I am done in no time; therefore, finishing my cleaning a lot faster and getting on with more important stuff, like playing with my kids.

One of the things that we ended up purchasing was an iRobot Roomba. It is a little bit of an investment, but we LOVE our Roomba! It vacuums for us every day. I still pull out the Dyson here and there for more specific jobs, but the Roomba is the bomb! We highly recommend it. Visit my page called “Products I Love” and find out which Roomba we recommend.
